Francis Parnell Murphy was born 16 Aug 1877 at Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.[1] He was the son of Patrick Murphy and Ellen Lambert. Francis P. Murphy died 19 Dec 1958 at his home in Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.[2]
Francis P. Murphy married 25 June 1902 at Newport, Sullivan, New Hampshire to Mae Belle Herrick.[3] She was the daughter of Timothy Herrick and Mary Maria Hobin.

He completed high school level classes in the local schools of Winchester New Hampshire and Hudson, Massachusetts. He held honorary degrees from Boston College, Dartmouth College (Hanover NH), St. Anselm College (Goffstown, NH) and the University of New Hampshire.
Politician, Shoe manufacturer, Television station owner (founder of WMUR-TV). From farm work to employed at the Child-Chamberlin Shoe Company in Hudson, Massachusetts after finishing high school. In 1898, at age 21, after the Hudson shoe factory burned down, he was sent to their Newport, New Hampshire factory to supervise the packing department. In 1902 that company was bought out by the W.H. McElwain shoe company. When WWI ended, the company merged with the International Shoe Company, when he became general superintendent of the company. In 1921 that company merged and grew into the J.F. McElwain Shoe Company. and he became part owner, with the factory moving to Nashua, New Hampshire where it grew and flourished, making Francis P. Murphy a wealthy man.
Enthusiastic about baseball, he is credited with building up the local Newport Polar Bears baseball team. He became president of the Twin-State League (Vermont vs New Hampshire). During World War I he is credited with helping to solve an electric energy problem in his area, using local water power.
Republican, later Democrat. Governor of NH, 1936-40; NH Executive Councilor. His first elected position was that of the Newport School Board, notable the he was the first Catholic to do so.
