Walter Murphy was born in approximately 1797 in County Wexford, Ireland. He married Mary Connors on November 17, 1820 in Ketch Harbour, Nova Scotia. He was living in Ketch Harbour in 1823, when he petitioned the government for land. As of the 1827 census, he was living in Ketch Harbour with the household consisting of four males and two females and 20 bushels of potatoes. He was working in the fishing industry.[1] As of the 1838 census, he was still living in Ketch Harbour and his occupation was a fisherman. His nine person household consisted of one male under 6 years old, one female under 6 years old, one male 6 to 14 years old, one female 6 to 14 years old, three males over 14 years old, and one female over 14 years old (his wife).[2] A Walter Murphy died in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1853, however, it is uncertain whether this is the same Walter Murphy.
