Virginia was a daughter of Samuel Murphy and Lydia Johnson. She married John A. Boyd in Martinsburg, Berkeley, West Virginia. They had five known children. She died on 27 April 1911 in Berkeley County and was buried in Tomahawk Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
