Eddie Murphy is an American comedian, actor, writer, singer, and producer.[1]
Edward Regan Murphy was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 3rd, 1961.[2] He is the son of Charles Edward Murphy and Lillian Laney. His parents separated when he was three, then his father was killed when he was eight. His mother married a second time to Vernon Lynch, who raised Eddie and his brother Charles Quinton Murphy.[3][4]
In 1976, at 15, Eddie began doing standup comedy. First gaining national prominence in 1980, when he was cast on Saturday Night Live. He was on SNL for four years. He released several comedy specials in the 1980s.

Eddie also had a very successful acting career starring in movies like Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, The Nutty Professor, Shrek, Dr. Dolittle, and Dreamgirls.
Eddie won a Golden Globe for his role in Dreamgirls in 2007 and a 2020 Primetime Emmy for an outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for his guest host spot on the 2019 Christmas episode of Saturday Night Live.
Eddie was awarded the Mark Twain Award for American Humor at the Kennedy Center in 2015 and the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes in 2023 for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” Eddie has also released several music albums.[6][7][8]
In 1993, Eddie married Nicole Mitchell, daughter of Eddie Tolan Mitchell.[9] They had five children together: Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, and Bella.[10] Nicole filed for divorce in 2005 and their divorce was finalized in 2006.[11]

In 2008, Eddie was briefly married to television producer Tracey Edmonds, who had previously been married to Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. They had a marriage ceremony in French Polynesia, but never legalized the ceremony in the United States.[12]
