Mary Jane Murphy was born on July 21, 1898. Her parents were Hugh Murphy and Elizabeth Ward. They lived in Balloo, County Down in Northern Ireland[1] and the birth was registered in the nearby town of Killyleagh.[2] According to census records the Murphy family were members of the Bretheren church.[3]
On July 31, 1918 Mary Jane married Charles Reid from Ballynahinch. Their wedding took place at Comber 2nd Presbyterian Church in the town of Comber.[4]
