He was married 3 times and had 13 children.

He married 1st Nov 23, 1873 in Sharp County, Ark to Martha Belle Spurlock (daug of David Spurlock Jr and Mary M. Estes). they had 4 children and she died in 1884 (age 27).

  • Oct 1, 1891 - John Tennison, Pink Murphy, Henderson Heath, John Martin and J.W. Graddy, all Sharp county farmers, each sold a new bale of cotton last week.
  • Jan 7, 1898 - Center - Rob't Spurlock of Panhandle, Texas, is here visiting his relatives and friends and we fear will give some of us the Texas fever. S.P. Murphy, W.G. Birchfield, and some others have the symptoms already. Mr. Spurlock went to Texas twelve years ago with $1700 and says he can now cash his cattle for $6000, besides his other property.
  • Jan 28, 1898 - Center - S.P. Murphy of this place is at work on the bridge at Hardy relaying the floor.
  • Apr 1, 1898 - S.P. Murphy has one hundred head of cattle to be placed on the range.
  • July 22, 1898 - S.P. Murphy of Center was attending to business in town Tuesday.
  • Sept 23, 1898 - Center - S.P. Murphy sold 20 2-yr-old steers at $20 per head last week.
  • Oct 21, 1898 - Center - David East and S.P. Murphy have swapped farms. Mr. Murphy is going to live in Center hereafter and will make some additions to his new residence.
  • Dec 9, 1898 - Center - S.P. Murphy and David East are to change residences this week.

  • Feb 17, 1905 - Center - Several deaths have occurred in this vicinity since our last report ... a young child of Mr. and Mrs. S.P. Murphy passed away with whooping cough ... The bereaved parents and families have our sympathy.
  • Nov 23, 1906 - Death at Center - Otho Murphy, son of Mr. and Mrs. S.P. Murphy, died at the home of his parents at Center Thursday of last week, after an illness of typhoid fever. The deceased was about 18 years of age, and an excellent young man. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy's many friends extend sympathy.

  • Nov 21, 1913 - Ash Flat - S.P. Murphy, a good citizen of Center, was a visitor in Ash Flat Tuesday.
  • Dec 19, 1913 - Corinth - David Murphy, son of S.P. Murphy, who has been in Mexico for some time, is back at his old home.
  • Jan 16, 1914 - S.P. Murphy and his son, Luther, good citizens of Morgan township, were transacting business here one day this week.
  • May 15, 1914 - Local News - S.P. Murphy, a substantial citizen of Center, was looking after business and meeting his friends here Friday.
  • June 11, 1915 - Center - S.P. Murphy has been on the sick list for several days, but is better now.
  • Aug 6, 1915 - Center - Mrs. Jack Ferguson of New Hope has been visiting the family of her brother, S.P. Murphy, and other relatives and friends here the past week.
  • Oct. 22, 1915 - Center - Some more changes in residence have been made of late... Miss Eliza Locke has moved from the home of Ira Edwards to the home of S.P. Murphy, and will reside at the latter place in the future.".
  • June 19, 1916 - Storm Damage at Center - The largest rain and windstorm in many seasons struck this section Monday evening about 5 o'clock. In fact, it was a regular cyclone. .... From this place the storm went up Big Creek west of town, doing some damage to one of A. Paden's barns and demolishing George Denton's barn on the S.P. Murphy farm.... (many other places mentioned also damaged).

Pink married 3rd after 1917 to widow Martha Jane Rogers Spurlock. When Pink's first wife (Martha Belle Spurlock) died, their baby daughter, Esther Belle went to live with Martha Belle's brother William K. Spurlock and his wife Martha Jane (Rogers), who raised her.

Martha Jane died before 1920 and Pink died in 1930.
