  • Edward Jr was born 1836 in Troy NY, and died 1911 at his summer home in Elberon NJ.
  • Graduated St John's College, Fordham NY.
  • Married in 1867 to Julia Delehanty (1842-1915). Adult children included five sons and three daugthers.
  • Edward Jr managed the family brewery business with his father, Edward Sr, from 1857 until his father retired, and the business was merged with William Kennedy in 1867: Kennedy and Murphy Brewing and Malting Co. [1][2][3]
  • His career in politics included:
    • Chair of the NY State Democratic Committee
    • Mayor of Troy
    • US Senator from New York.
