Biography

Samuel Maxim was the son of Samuel Maxim and Hannah Perry of Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts[1]. He was co-executor and a substantial legatee under his grandfather Ezra Perry's will.[2].

On September 18, 1736, he married Elizabeth Gibbs, the daughter of Thomas Gibbs and Joanna Swift of Sandwich[3] [4] [1] [5], and their children included: heir children included[6]

  1. Hannah, born July 2, 1737[7] [1] [6]
  2. Nathan, born October 2, 1739[8] [6], who married Martha Chibbick[1]
  3. David, born Sept 30, 1741[9] [6], who married Rebecca Besse[1]
  4. Ezra[1], who was a minor when his father died[10] In 1762, his mother Elizabeth was appointed his guardian.[11]
  5. Elizabeth, born Jan 19, 1743[6][1] [12] [10] In 1762, Elizabeth made the choice of her mother to be her guardian.[13]
  6. Caleb, born June 9, 1746[14] [6] [1] In 1762, Caleb made the choice of his mother Elizabeth to be his guardian.[15]
  7. Samuel, born September 12, 1748[16][6] [10]

Samuel died July 16, 1755 in Rochester[17], guardianship for his children passed in 1762[10].

Probate

Samuel died intestate and on 17 July 1755, Ezra Muxam of Middleborough was granted the administration of his estate.[18]

His inventory was taken on 26 September 1755 in Rochester.[19]

In 1762, an account of his estate by Ezra Maxom was recorded which included the sale of sheep, debts received, debts paid, necessaries to his widow Elizabeth, and administration fees.[20]

In 1762, his estate was divided between his widow Elizabeth, and his children, Nathan Maxum (eldest son), Hannah, David, Elizabeth, Caleb, Samuel, and Ezra.[21]
