Biography

Phil Myers was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1921, son of Philip Myers II and Azalea Shipley. He graduated in engineering from Swarthmore College. He served with the American Friends Service Committee in Mexico. He was a naval officer in World War II, earned a degree in marine engineering at the University of Michigan, and served in the Pacific. He married Margaret Peterson in Baltimore in 1944. They had six children. He supervised large projects in Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay for Maryland Shipbuilding and Drydock and for the Interamerican Development Bank, and did forest work in Nicaragua. They retired to Baltimore. He died in Portland in 1987.

Footnote

This is Philip Myers III, his father and a greatgrandfather having borne the name. A son and grandson are also Philip Myers. He mostly used "Jr.," not III.
