In approximately 1878 Robert and Mary moved from Pennsylvania to Nebraska. In 1879 after moving to Nebraska, Clarra their fourth child passed away. While living in Nebraska Mollie gave birth to their last child, Luther. Luther was born in 1881 and passed away in 1899. Of the six children born to Robert and Mary, only three survived to have families of their own. Benjamin McClellan, Anna McClellan Meyer, and Edith (Katie) Derr.

1st Sgt Robert T McClellan passed away in 1902 leaving Mary a widow. After Robert's death, Mary moved to California to be near her daughter. She later met Mr. Frank L. Carter.
