Timeline

1863 Charles A. W. Myers was born to Samuel & Delila (Defore) Myers near Freedom, Indiana on 18 October. [4] He had two older siblings: William and Emily.[5]

1870 The 1870 Census shows the household of Samuel & Delila "Myres" living in Indiana, but a city name is not given. The household includes William (10), Emily (8), Charles A (6), Clarinda (4) and John C (2).[5]

1880 Charles, age 16, "works on farm" in Jefferson Township, Owen County, Indiana, and he lives with his family. All of the siblings from 1870 are still living at home with their parents.[6]

1888 Charles marries Mary Fiscus on 7 April.[2]

1889 Their first child is born, a son, Jessie (Jesse) Oren, on 17 March.[3]

1891 Roxie Ann is born on 17 February.[3]

1893 Emma Merilda is born on 30 August.[3]

1896 Eva Alice is born on 28 May.[3]

1899 Merritt Clifford is born on 6 February.[3]

1900 Charles & Mary are living in the "east half" of Jefferson Township, Owen County, Indiana with Jessie, Roxie, Emma, Eva and Merritt.[7]

1901 Another son, Estil Ray, is born on 13 October.[3]

1904 Charles Cecil is born on 5 April.[3]

1906 Noah Fletcher is born on 13 March.[3]

1909 Effie Ferne is born on 16 January.[3]

1910 Charles & Mary remain in Jefferson Township. They now have nine children -- Estil, (Noah) Fletcher, (Charles) Cecil and (Effie) Fern have been added to the family since the last census.[8]

1912 Russell Cletis is born on 11 April.[3]

1914 Their son Jessie passes away on 10 December at age 25.[3]

1918 Roxie passes away on 22 November away at age 27, and Estil passes away on 24 December at age 17. A very difficult year, to be sure. It is likely that they were victims of the 1918 flu pandemic.[3]

1920 Well, this census is a doozy. Just about every name is misspelled in the transcription, but if you use your imagination, you can make sense of it. The Jefferson Township household includes Charles W and Mary, as well as "Celil C" (Charles Cecil), "Nougy" (Noah), "Runel C" (Russell Cletis), Effie F, and Mary's father Noah (misspelled as "Nory").[9]

1927 Noah passes away on 6 August. He was only 21 years old.[3]

1930 Charles and Mary have not left Jefferson Township. The only child left at home now is Russell who is 18 years old.[10]

1936 Their daughter Eva passes away on 3 January, age 40, leaving behind her husband Fred and five children.[3]

1940 Charles and Mary, now in their 70s, are still living in the same house in Jefferson Township. This is the final census listing for them.[11]

1951 Charles passes away on 29 December.[1] He is buried in the Dutch Bethel Cemetery in Freedom, Indiana.[12]
