Biography

Audrey Jeannette Myers is the daughter of Cecil Harvey Myers & Edith Sprague. She is one of 5 children. Her siblings are Hubert Allen, Beverly Orell, Alison Cecil and Harriet Ellen.

Audrey was born in Huron, Beadle, South Dakota at Sprague Hospital, delivered by her dear Uncle Dr Buell H Sprague. Before 1930 her father relocated the family to Sioux City, Iowa. Her father left the family in 1937 after losing their family home and business so she removed with her mother Edith to Grinnell, Iowa and began attending college.

She met her first husband Lt. Edward Nile Walters (USAF), a life long resident of Iowa while attending Grinnell College. They were married in Alexandria, Louisiana in April 1941. Tragically, he was killed one month after they were married in a bomber crash just miles from Esler Field (Now ALexandria AFB) in Louisiana in 1942.

She married Max Opfer (also his 2nd marriage) in 1949 and they had 2 children David and Diane. While visiting her in the hospital in 1993 he was hit and killed by a bus on his way home. She died seven moths later in Florida while staying with her sister. She is buried with both spouses in the Myers family plot in Niles, Illinois.
