Gracey was born about 1752 in South Carolina.
She was married to Sterne Simmons Sr. They moved to the Ceded Lands of Georgia after 1773. Sterne obtained a grant of land for 100 acres on Soap Creek about 2 miles above the Cherokee Road on both sides of the middle fork where one "Casey" lived. This grant was in 1773. By 1774 Gracey and Sterne were living on their land in Georgia as evidenced by a tax list for 1774 at Wrightsboro.
War came to the colony of Georgia in April of 1775. The War of the Revolution had begun.

Stern Simmons Sr. moved from Halifax County VA to Lincoln County GA in the late 1700's with his wife Grace Nagley Simmons. They had three sons: Stern Jr., Thomas, and John. John Simmons (11/5/1785 - 1/19/1827, not pictured), a prominent planter, and his wife Mary Ann Matheson Simmons raised their family at Goshen in Lincoln County. Their son Stern Simmons III whose epitaph reads: "Stern Simmons. Born 22nd August 1824. Died 25th August 1853. Aged 29 years and 3 days. The deceased weighed at the time of his death 650 lbs."[2]
Her son, John, died in Lincoln County, Georgia in 1827. Her husband, Sterne Sr., died after making his will in October of 1828. Gracey is named as a legatee in her husband's will.
Her sons, Thomas and Sterne Jr. moved to Yalobusha County in Mississippi about 1835. Gracey also moved to Yalobusha County. According to several DAR applications she died there in 1842.
