In 1761, Jane Homesley was recently widowed, sick, and destitute, with three young children. Her maiden name was Nance. She died on 26 October 1761 in the home of Reverand Robert McLaurine, where it is believed she was working as a domestic servant at the time. After her death, her two sons (Benjamin and Joseph) were bound out to local citizens to be boarded and educated after a fashion, and her infant daughter (Nancy) had a guardian appointed for her.
