Biography

Mary Ellen was born in 1896. Her biological parents were Thomas Blankenship and Mary 'Polly' Lycans (Maynard). No marriage record of her parents have been found. Her aunt Sarah Elizabeth 'Sallie' Maynard Napier and spouse Moses D. Napier raised her along with their other children from their large family.

Mary Ellen married Lawrence Ross on Oct. 10, 1910 in Wayne County, West Virginia, at the residence of Moses Napier. Marriage was performed by Rev. Eli T. Wooten, a well known minister in Wayne County, West Virginia.

She and Lawrence had nine children together: Sarah Elizabeth b&d 1913, Mary Lee b 1915, Bertie b1918, Taylor b&d1920, Alka Dorothy b&d1925, Allene b1927, Earnest Dean b&d1928, Maxine b1930 and Johnnie Edward b&d1934.

Mary Ellen passed away in 1973.
