Enlisted in 37th Regiment (Bell's) Company G, 9th Arkansas Infantry on May 10, 1862.[3] He died of a plague at Camp Hope (renamed Nelson and called Death by the troops), Austin, Arkansas on Sep 16, 1862.[4]
He was buried in a mass grave with other plague casualties.
There were 1,500 casualties of the plague, most of them lads of the 10th Texas Infantry. A Wm H Farrar, possibly son William George Farrar of Leon Co, TX was a member of the 10th Texas and probably also died at Camp Hope
