Biography

In addition to the information from the biography by Eddy Dobson found on Find A Grave referenced below, there was an older sibling in the Jackson household - listed as Martha E Robinson Jackson. At this writing (05 June 2021) it appears Martha was born prior to Neale's marriage to Jonathan Jackson. Martha's birthdate is 12 June(?) 1816 and Neale's marriage date to Jonathan Jackson is September 28, 1817, according to the Virginia Compiled Marriage Index 1740-1850.

Eddy Dobson's writes the following:[1]
Julia Neale was born in 1798 to Margaret Winn and Thomas Neale. She married Jonathan Jackson on Sep. 28, 18 in Parkersburg, VA (now West Virginia).

Life was good for them and their kids Elizabeth, Warren, and Thomas. But in 1826, typhoid fever took Jonathan and little Elizabeth. A daughter Laura was born right after the deaths. Soon after though, she remarried Blake Woodson on November 4, 1830.

Woodson despised his stepchildren, so Julia sent them to live with relatives. In 1831, she gave birth to their first child William Woodson. But the childbirth was too much for her and she died of complications on December 4. As for her family, they went on to still have many more tragedies. The rest of her children lived past their childhood years, but not for long.

Warren contracted tuberculosis and died at the age of 20 in 1841. Thomas had much success and became known as the famous Civil War general for the Confederacy, "Stonewall" Jackson. Unfortunately, he was wounded and had his arm amputated and a week later, he died of pneumonia at the age of 39 on May 10, 1863.

Laura was the only child who survived old age. She died in 1911 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, at the age of 85. William lived till 1875 and died at the age of 44 in New Harmony, Indiana. Blake, her husband, died not long after in May 1833 at the age of 63.

Several years later, Capt. Thomas R. Ranson paid respect to her by putting a marble marker over her unmarked grave. Her grave and all the others in Westlake Cemetery are kept clean by many community groups.

I suggest that Judith Beckwith Neal-246 be merged with Judith Beckwith Neale Jackson (Neale-2249) Both women married the same Jonathan Jackson.
