DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Betty by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Betty:
Betty NEILSON is my great great grandmother through her son Andrew Hamilton (1810-1892). The name " Bettehia" appears only on the record of her birth in the Parish Register. It does not seem to exist anywhere as a name. Bethia on the other hand was quite common in Scotland and perhaps Bettehia is a phonetic attempt at Bethia.
Neilson-1693 and Nelson-6852 appear to represent the same person because: I'm a descendant of a likely sibling of Betty Neilson and have had lots of Ancestry DNA matches with descendants of Betty Neilson & Andrew Hamilton. She is almost always referred to as Betty in Censuses etc, and the name 'Elizabeth' only appears on her grave. Naming of children all their children also matches Scots naming conventions and grandparents (have yet to enter all the siblings of Margaret, but 1st daughter was Ann and second son William) . I'm sure that they are one and the same person
