His mother was Hannah Thorpe, christened 18 May 1668 at East Grinstead, Sussex, and died 25 Mar 1764 at East Grinstead, where she was buried on 2 Apr 1764. Her will of 23 Aug 1762 was proved in London on 11 May 1764. She was the sister of Gervase Thorpe and the daughter of his father Gervase Thorpe.
