Biography:

Stephen C. Newberry, Jr. was born on 05 November 1802 at sea, one day out from the Port of Savannah in the coastal waters of Georgia. The Census Taker therefore considered him to be born in Georgia.


Stephen Chambers Newberry. He was my Great-Great-Great-Grandfather's Father's Uncle.

NOTE:In talking with decendants of Stephen, family verbal history says his middle name was Chambers after his mother's madien name. Many call him Stephen Jr HOWEVER he and his father did not have the same middle name, only same first names.

From the Vanderpool Newsletter 1083: "Stephen Newberry, Jr, son of Stephen Newberry and Sallie Chambers. Both parents b. Scotland, cam e to America in 1802. Stephen Newberry, Jr. b. 1802 in Georgia, died between Civil War and 1870, first settler on the Forks of Osage. M. (1) Rhoda - ?-; M. (2) Easter Phillips "Ross" Cherokee, daughter of Levi Phillips and Mildred Talley. Easter Phillips was born 1814? in Overton Co., TN, or 1813 in Georgia per census records; she died ca 1898. Easter (Phillips) Newberry, married 2nd after 1880 (per census), Stirling Cock Harris Pitman."
