Son of Joseph Newberry and Sybil Stoughton. Dyer inherited the north part of his father's home lot bounding west on the Connecticut River and east on the street - each division being six and two thirds rods in width.
Married twice: first to Ruth Birge 12 December 1790; and second, Lucy Terry 29 November 1827.
Died in South Windsor, CT at 81 years of age.
Burial: Center Cemetery, South Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut.
