Research Notes

  • Note: There is some confusion on birth location and date of Jesse's birth. There is a Jesse born in Guilford in 1797 but the other children listed don't match William and Anna's children. There is also a William Osborn m. to Anna Macy in Guilford, so errors may be easily made. While Osborn-1428 uses a site Osborn_Origins as a source, there is no confirming evidence that this is the same William Osborn m. to Anna Newby, as the sources listed are minimal. Also, it has Jesse b. 1801 in Tennessee or Kentucky. Which would land him in the middle of the other children, who were all born in Guilford, NC or Wayne Co., Indiana.
  • Some genealogies have her marrying an Obediah Harris in 17 Feb 1851. This has not currently been verified by reputable sources.
  • Find-A-Grave has a gravestone for a William and Anna (Macy) Osborn with dates from Guilford, N.C.. This has often been confused with this William and Anna (Newby) Osborn. William and Anna were common names among the Quakers at this time. This manager Jones-66946 has tried to confirm from the names of the children born, the correct William and Anna. We do know they had moved to Indiana and were active in the meeting house in Hendricks, Indiana from the 1820 and 1830 census and meeting records. Her daughter, Anna Osborn is listed in a Find-a-grave as dying in 1850.[8]
