Biography

Mary, eldest known daughter of Caroline Stent and the daughter of John Newman Jr. of Chiddingfold, Surrey.

She was born prior to Caroline's marriage and is named Mary Stent on the 1871 census aged 2. By 1881, she is now listed as Mary Newman.

On May 12, 1889 Mary now 20, married John Wheeler, Coachman, at All Saints, Witley. Mary is recorded as Mary Stent, father John Newman. Both were able to sign their name. Witnesses to their marriage were Frederick and Ellen Card.

Mary and John settled at High Street, Ewell and John was employed as a Groom. They later moved to Epsom where John worked as a Carman/Carrier for a Brickworks. By 1911 Mary and John had 6 children, Ernest John, Mary Emma, Frederick, William, Arthur and Winnie.

Mary (nee Newman/Stent) Wheeler died aged 76 in 1945 in Surrey, Mid Eastern.
