When James Henry Marcus Newman was born on November 22, 1874, in Haralson County, Georgia, his father, Charles, was 28 and his mother, Carolyn, was 28. He had five sons and three daughters with Malinda Elizabeth "Lizzie" Elliott between 1896 and 1918. He died on October 5, 1957, in Haralson County, Georgia, at the age of 82.
