He was born about 1696 in St.Marys Parish, Burlington County, New Jersey and his parents were Mary Catherine (Brooks) and Walter Samuel Newman, Sr. (c1660-1729).
Walter Neumann or Newman, Jr. married on (13 or 31 ?) Oct 1716 in Saint Stephen's Parish, Sassafras, Kent County, Maryland to Elisabeth Seidel [1] (bef.1700-aft,1763).
On 16 October 1735, Walter Newman Jr. purchased 234 acres of land in two adjoining tracts in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, from John, Richard, and Thomas Penn for L36, 5 shillings and 4 pence. The land was surveyed and leased, and was called Newburry (now called Newmanstown). Records show that Walter's children leased some of the land and after his 1776 death, some of his sons sold their land and moved to Virginia and Ohio, USA.
In 1752 parts of Lancaster, Bucks and Philadelphia counties went into the formation of Berks County, Pennsylvania.
On 19 Sep 1768 he sold some of his land in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [2] [3]
He died on 04 Aug 1776 in Heidelberg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA [4] and was buried at Mount Tunnel Cemetery in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA. [5]
The introduction at FamilySearch.org also highlights the difficulties with changing boundaries of Lancaster, Berks, and Chester counties - which complicate the identification of primary sources connected to this person.
In 1752 Berks County was created from portions of Lancaster, Bucks and Philadelphia Counties (possibly Chester as well). Unfortunately, the new county line between Berks and Lancaster Counties split Newmanstown right down the middle. As a result, generations of Newmans living on the same piece of property within 2 miles of each other were actually living in different counties. Subsequent boundary changes caused the western half of Newmanstown to suffer at least 3 more name changes and the eastern half at least 1 more.
