SUDDEN DEATH JUDGE NEWSOM
Member of County Court Died Saturday Afternoon Enroute Home From Bosworth, Mo.
Relatives and friends of Judge Thomas Newsom were shocked and sorely grieved Saturday when the news of his passing was flashed over the county. The county court member suffered an attack of acute indigestion at the Bosworth Lumber yard, early Saturday morning. Medical aid was summoned and his condition was apparently improved. Early in the afternoon he left for his home near Bosworth. When about one-half the distant to the home from that place, the son noticed the father slump in his seat. He immediately stopped the car and upon investigation, ascertained that the life had left the body. Acute indigestion is said to have been the cause of death.Judge Newsom had been a sufferer of heart trouble and acting upon the advise of a physician a few years ago took a trip through the west in quest of relief from the disease, since that date despite his unusual weight of nearly 300 pounds, the county judge enjoyed the best of health until the sudden attack of illness at Bosworth Saturday.
Judge Thomas Newsom, son of William Newsom, a pioneer settler of Carroll County, was born November 23, 1868 on a farm in the vicinity of Bosworth. He grew up in that immediate community, attended the rural schools and early in life gained a knowledge of the agriculture profession which avocation he followed practically through life Judge Newsom was married October 18,1891 to Miss Cora Crane. To this union the following children were born: Mrs Ethel Sikes of Bosworth, Mrs. Avis PENNINGTON of Dewitt MO, John Newsom of near Bosworth, Bernice and Willis Newsom also of this county. Besides the wife and aged father, Judge Newsom is also survided by two brothers Bert of ElDorado,Kan, Reddin of Nashville Mo.and two sister, Miss Artie Newsom and Mrs. Dave Bastel both of Bosworth. His passing is also mourned by many other relatives as well as a wide circle of friends.
Fraternally the county court member was affiliated with the Woodmen I.O.O.F. Lodge and the Sons of Veterans. Politically he was an ardent Republian. In the last election his friends prevailed upon him to enter the field as a candidate for Judge of the Eastern Didtrict of Carroll County. He was elected to this office and faithfully discharged the duties connected with the public trust until his untimely death. Religiously, Judge Newsom was not a church member, but frequently attended the services. He often donated to the cause of Christianity.
Judge Newsom lived on a farm in the vicinity of Bosworth where he was born. He was a man whose many strong traits and companionable qualities made for him many friends in the community where he spent his life. He manifested qualitied of sturdy and substanial manhood which gained the respect and esteem of those who knew him, and his farming methods were an object of his neighbors admiration.
Gov. Baker will be called upon to appoint a successor of the late Judge Newsom
The funeral of the late J.T. Newsom was held from his home near Bosworth, Tuesday afternoon at 1 oclock conducted by Rev. Barrett of Dewitt. Interment was made in Wharton Cemetery conducted by the I.O.O.F Lodge of Bosworth.
Out of respect of the late county court member the office of the courthouse were closed during the services Tuesday afternoon. Practical all of the county, attended the services. Asession of the county court was held Tuesday morning at which time resolutions of respect were adopted An unusually large crowd was present at the services Tuesday afternoon. Friends of the late Judge from all over the county were in attendance.

WILLIAM J. NEWSOM DIES HERE SUNDAY
Again the Death Angel made his unwelcome although not unexpected visit to our community and claimed as his victim and old soldier and highly respected citizen of our town, William J. Newsom.
William J. Newsom, son of Simon and Pathia Newsom was born in Wilson County, North Carolina November 8,1838, the youngest of a family of ten children and now the last to go.
Died at his home in Bosworth Mo. October 7,1928, being at time of death within one month of 90 years.
He came to Missouri from North Carolina in 1859 making his home on a farm 3 1/2 miles south of Bosworth Mo. where he lived until 30 years ago when he moved into Bosworth where he had since made his home.
He was married January 24 1861 to Miss Mary E. Newsom and to this union were born several children, four of whom survive. His wife and three children preceding him in death. A son William R. dying August 1872. A daughter Mary E. died January 1873 and another son Judge J.T. Newsom died November 14, 1925. His wife died January 3, 1873.
The surviving children are, Mrs. Sallie Bachtel of Varrollton Mo. Miss Artie of the home address; Burke of Eldorado Kansas and Reddin of Nashville Mo.
He was an old soldier having enrolled for duty as soldier May 2,1864; was ordered into service as a private in Co. F. 4th Regiment, Provisional Missouri Militia in 6th day of October 1864 at Carrollton; relieved from duty March 14,1865
Mr. Newsom or as he was so well known to other as Uncle Billy was at one time an extensive and well-known feeder of stock until he moved into town to live. His son J. T. Newsom continued the feeding operations on the same farm until his death 3 years ago and now his son William is living on the old home farm making three generations to live on and take care of the same farm.
After moving to town he spent his time buying and shipping stock until ill health compelled him to retired. He shipped his last load of stock at the age of 81 years. From then on until July 1, this year he was more or less confined to his home at that time he became bedfast and so continued until death overtook him Oct. 7th 1928.
Beside the children he is survived by 15 grand children and 32 great grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at the Christian Church of Bosworth October 9, 1928 at 2:00 oclock p. m. Rev John Lindsey officiating assisted by Rev Grant Scannell, pastor of the Baptist Church. The pall bearers were the grandson and grand-son-in-laws; John, Verne, Willis Newsom, Archie Bachtel, Clarence McCluhan, Elbert Bell, Chas Sipes, Henry PENNINGTON. The body aws laid to rest in the Wharton Cemetery. (Submitted by Darla)
