Biography

George Newton was born in 1768 in Newton's Cross Roads, New Hanover, NC.

George and his wife Mary Robinson Newton moved from North Carolina to Screven Co., Georgia in the early 1800's, settling near the village of Rocky Ford.

From Screven County library records. Deed dated Oct 20, 1820 property transferred to "my son in law, William Moore. " Screven Co bk 6P, p. 45

In 1840, the census records 1 male 80-90, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 15-20, 1 female 70-80, 1 female 30-40, and 1 female 5-10.

George's will is recorded in Will Book 1810-1857 2B page 95, Screven County Courthouse, Sylvania, GA.

George died in Screven County, GA and is buried in the Newton Family Cemetery, near Rocky Ford, Screven County, GA.
