Biography

Levi was born 17 February 1728 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He was the son of Thomas Newton and Anna Wilson.[1]

On 5 Aug 1751, Levi married Lucy Billings, the daughter of John and Mary (Chapin) Billings of Sunderland, Massachusetts.[2] Levi Newton lived awhile in Montague, and moved to Deerfield in 1753 and lived there the rest of his life. His children were probably born there, but in what order is unknown.

Levi was a Revolutionary War solder and served in Captain James Stebbin's Company C, in Col. D. Wells' Regiment. He enlisted September 23, 1777 and was discharged October 18, 1777 (Northern Department,Roll Dated Deerfield).

Levi and Lucy had the following (known) children (note order uncertain):

  1. John
  2. Eunice
  3. Levi
  4. Luther
  5. Lucy
  6. Calvin

In the 1790 Census his household consisted of himself, one male under sixteen years and one female.

Some sources give Levi's date of death as May 1803[3] and others as May 1814[4] or Feb 1814[5]
