Richardson (Royal Ancestry, volume I, page 409 CARLETON 16) does not say where (or when) Ellen Newton died. It says "Edward Carleton, Gent., returned to England shortly before 24 Jan. 1648/9, and was living there 22 May 1651. He died sometime before 27 Nov. 1678, presumably in England."

Please see image and source above. There is evidence that Ellen and her children returned to England following Edwards death. Her oldest son Lt. John Carlton came back to New England later and stayed for the remainder of his life. We may need to change Ellen's death location to unknown until sources can be found.

Edward Carleton, baptized 20 October 1610. He married Ellen Newton. In 1638, ... they immigrated to New England, where they settled at Rowley, Massachusetts.

Thank you.
