Jolly Westerfied Newton was born on 28 Jun 1897 to Charles Newton and Ellen Kennedy.

In the 1900 Census, he was living in Magisterial District 5, Vanover, Kentucky with his parents and 6 siblings.

On a WW1 Draft Card it states he lost a eye.

On 21 Sep 1918 he married Beulah Johnson in Daviess, Kentucky

In the 1920 Census, he was living in Vanover, Daviess, Kentucky, as a farmer with his wife and daughter.

In the 1930 Census, he was living in Vanover, Daviess, Kentucky, as a farmer with his wife and 4 daughters.

On 29 Jan 1935 1:15 PM, he was shot by Charles Huebner because he lost at a crap game. Charles left the house but came back to house armed with 2 pistols, he yelled at them to return his money but Harvey told Jolly not to give his 5 dollars back, he then started shooting.
