Clarence Elmer Newton was born to Elizabeth "Jane" and Robert Newton in Oakdale,[1] Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, a populated area 1.25 miles from the Jeddo post office,[2] on 25 Oct 1888.[3] He grew to be a young man of medium height and weight with light blue eyes and dark brown hair. He was living in the Newton family home at 681 Locust Street in Hazleton, Pennsylvania and working as a "Locomotion Engineer" for the Central Pennsylvania Railroad when he was called to the draft.
