He was baptised at Great Eversden, Cambridgeshire, on 14 Dec 1817, the son of Thomas Nicholls and Elizabeth.[1] Married at Syb /registers Office, Perth Military Pensioner Soldier Nbr 1089 Pte 51st Regt. EPG
John was a Private in the 51st Regiment who came to Western Australia with the Regiment on the Runnymede, arriving on 25 June 1840. He later became an enrolled Pensioner Guard.[2]
He was first stationed at Perth Headquarters and then at Albany. He transferred from hospital to Perth on 21 January 1843.[2]
He married Ann Stanton on 9 June 1846 in Perth.[2] They had eight children to 1873.
John may have worked as a stonemason in Perth in 1870.[2]
