Sarah Nichols was born in 1682 in Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island Colony, daughter of Richard Nichols (1649–1721) and Phebe Briggs (1656–1727).

Sarah (17) married Francis Matteson (20) (born on March 15, 1680 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island; son of Henry Matteson and Hannah (Parsons) Hazelton) on May 22, 1700 in East Grennwich, Kent County, Rhode Island Colony. Their children were:

FRANCIS^2 MATTESON (Henry^1 ) b. Mar. 15, 1680, East Greenwich, R. I., d. 1751, m., May 22, 1702, Sarah Nichols, dau. of Richard and Phoebe Nichols. He settled in Warwick, R. I. Was Deputy in 1734 and 1748.

His will, dated March 20, 1751, proved April 28, 1750, gave

son Job to have the benefit of said half of homestead for maintenance of my wife.

To sons John, Francis, Henry, Thomas, Job and dau. Sarah Corey, Hannah Whitford and Elizabeth Matteson, the rest of moveables, equally, except my wife's bed etc.

To wife a feather bed, iron pot, kettle, 2 chairs, 2 pewter basins for life and then to children.
