His parents were Grace (Noble) and John Nichols (DNA confirmed).
His given name has been spelled different ways in the records including ....
Levin Nichols married about 17 Dec 1708 [1] to a Rebecca of unknown maiden surname. They resided in Dorchester County, Maryland and their children included ... Elizabeth Ann, John, Nehemiah, Mark & Levin.
From his father's last Will about 1858, Levin inherited some land in Dorchester County, Maryland.
On 28 Feb 1767 Levin and his wife Rebecca sold the "Hampton" land in Dorchester County, Maryland. [2]
Shortly afterward he moved to Kent County.
Levin Nichols married secondly to a Lucretia of unknown maiden surname.
He stated that he was "an old man" when he gave permission to marry for his daughter Crissey.
This Levin Nichols is believed to be the same person as the Levin Nichols/Nicolls/Nicholas who had sons, Levin, Jr. and Zepaniah/Zephaniah.
Levin Nichols appears to have been the patriarch of virtually everyone named Nichols or Nicholas associated with the Hacker's Creek settlement in pioneer-era West Virginia. See Hackerscreek.com (per Nichol-198).
He passed away about Sep 1821 in Bath, Virginia, USA.
HaploGroup R-L21 from NICHOLS Surname Project
Paternal relationship is confirmed through Y-chromosome DNA testing of a living descendant of this person. David Green Nichol and a descendant of Henry Ward Nichols match on 37 out of 37 markers (see the Nichols Surname Project thereby confirming their direct paternal lines back to their MRCA John Nicoll.
Living descendants of this line have proven to be an exact DNA match with descendants of Benjamin Nichol, my g-g-g-grandfather, who was born in Dorchester Co. in 1769. Benjamin is presumed--for now--to be a descendant of Levin's Uncle Benjamin. Levin's date-of-birth range 1736-1746 is deduced from the fact that he was a minor in his father's 1758 will probate, but must have been at least 21 to have married and sold land in 1767. [R. B. Nichol-198 in Jan 2008]
Was he born in Germany or Dorchester, Maryland ?
