In 1850, Sarah (Sally) was unmarried. She married sometime before 1860.
In 1860, Sarah was married, to A. B. Vinyard. There were several children in the household-- many too old to be Sally's children. However, she could be the mother of some of the younger children.
In 1870 Sally lived alone (head of household) in Benton County, (Bentonville post office). Census records indicate she could not read or write.
In 1880, Sarah was widowed, lived alone (head of household) in Benton County, Arkansas. She lived near her brother, Thomas W. Nichols. The census record showed Sarah's birthplace as Tennessee, with her parent's born in Virginia and Georgia. Thomas' census record show his birthplace as Tennessee, but curiously, doesn't agree with parents birthplaces shown as South Carolina, and Tennessee.
