Biography

Isaac Nicholson was born November 30, 1830, in Monroe County, Tennessee, one of thirteen children of Isaac and Rebecca (Penry) Nicholson. Both of his parents were of English descent, and natives of South Carolina. They were married in South Carolina and lived there after their marriage for several years before moving to Tennessee and finally Georgia. Isaac's father died in Union county, Georgia, about 1853 at the age of 75 years. Isaac's mother died in 1860, in Monroe county, Tennessee at about eighty years of age.

Isaac came to Polk county, Tennessee in 1848. He married Helen M. Howell on March 4, 1849 in Polk County, TN . the parents of eight sons and two daughters. (1 &12) Their children included: Joseph A. Nicholson born January 23, 1851; William I., born January 28, 1853; Charles H., July 26, 1855; John H., November 21, 1857; Asa B., March 26, 1860; Mary H., October 10, 1862; Newton S., July 16, 1865; Robert T., January 10, 1868; Susan N., January 28, 1871. (11).

In 1871, he purchased a farm of 145 acres, where he resided thereafter. (1) In 1882, Isaac was duly elected trustee of Polk county, and re-elected in 1884 and 1886. He was a Republican, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. (1).

Isaac died on 26 Nov 1830 and is buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery, at Chattanooga in HamiltonCounty, Tennessee. His wife, Helen Marian Howell, followed him in death on
