Biography

No birth record for John Nicklisson has been found in Maryland sources. He was possibly born in Anne Arundel County and the son of the John Nicholson who was living in Maryland before 1657.[1]

Property

John was definitely living in Anne Arundel County by 29 AUG 1681 when he was granted part of a tract called Indian Range by Richard Beard, the son of Richard Beard, the original grantee. The deed states the consideration was for the "love, goodwill and affection" Richard Beard had for his daughter who lately intermarried with John Nicholson, and Richard Beard Jr. had for his sister.[2] This deed and another for the same tract were brought to the courthouse in Annapolis 19 MAR 1705 by John Nicholson to be recorded. The courthouse burned down destroying deeds in 1704 and property owners were encouraged to rerecord their deeds when the new courthouse was completed. John Nicholson brought one other deed showing he purchased a tract from William Richardson, the Elder in 1687. Instead of being labeled as a planter, in this deed he is called a plasterer. John paid £2.10.0 sterling for 89 acres on the ridge between the South River and the Patuxant River.[3]

Marriage & Children

John Nicholson was married to Rebecca Beard by 29 AUG 1681 as proved by the deed mentioned above. After the Church of England was established in Anne Arundel County, John & Rebeckath Nickilisson registered the births of their children in one entry:

Rebeckath b. 19 APR 1681
Elizabeth b. 20 FEB 1683
John b. 30 DEC 1686
Rachell b. 20 SEP 1688
Susanna b. 22 NOV 1690
Richard b. 24 AUG 1693 [4]

Nicholson-2881 and Nicklisson-1 appear to represent the same person because: because of the similar names these are not represented as the same person and should be merged.
