1881 "1881, Canada Census" states that George is approximately eight years of age, born in Nova Scotia, the family is Methodist. The family resides in Jordan River, Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Canada and his father's occupation is that of a Farmer. [2]
1891 "1891, Canada Census" According to this census George is approximately eighteen years of age, his religious preference is Methodist, both of his parents' were born in Nova Scotia, Canada, and he was born in Nova Scotia. George continues to live with his family which resides in Jordan Falls, Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Canada. George's siblings are listed as Thomas Burns, Mary Etta Jane, Bessie E., Ferdinand Earl, and Gussie, which range in age from twenty-nine to nine. [3]
1901 George Whitman Nickerson married Maud Monroe on Aug 17, 1901, in Lowell, Massachusetts. George was twenty-eight years old, a Painter, born in Nova Scotia, and lived in Boston, while Maud was twenty-seven, a Dress Maker, born in Nova Scotia, lived in Boston. This was the first marriage for both individuals. [4]
1910 "1910, United States Federal Census" George is approximately thirty-five years of age and his immigration status remains an Alien. He and his wife have been married for eight years and currently rent a home on Wesley Avenue, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. George is employed as a painter in the Building Industry. One of Maud's younger sisters is currently living with them. Evidently George and Maud have not started a family yet. Both of George's parents continue to live in Canada. [5]
1912 "Massachusetts, Naturalization Records," On June 28, 1912 George Whitman Nickerson filed a Declaration of Intention form, which is invalid seven years after it has been filed, with the Naturalization Service in the State of Massachusetts. George was forty years old at the time he filed this paperwork. George stated that that his occupation was a painter and declared that his personal description is as follows: Color: White, Complexion: light, Height: 5ft 7inches, Weight: 145 pounds., Color of hair: brown, Eye Color: blue, Visible distinctive marks: none. I was born in: Shelbourne, Nova Scotia, on the 30th of April 1872, I now reside at 26 Thornley Street, Boston, Massachusetts. I emigrated to the United States of America from Nova Scotia on the vessel ----------------; my last foreign residence was Sacd Shelburne. It is my bona fide intention to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, to George V, King of Great Britain and Ireland, of which I am now a subject: I arrived at the port of Boston, in the State of Massachusetts, ion or about the day of April, 1890. I am not an anarchist: I am not a polygamist nor a believer in the practice of polygamy: and it is my intention in good faith to become a citizen of the United States of America and to permanently reside therin: SO HELP ME GOD.[6]

It takes a substantial amount of time from when you begin the Naturalization process to the end of the process. [8]
1920 "1920, United States Federal Census" George is now approximately forty-five years of age. The couple have purchased their own home, which is mortgaged and they now reside at 26 Thomley Street, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. George and Maud have both become Naturalized Citizens of the USA. George has his own Painting Business and is an employer improving his financial position substantially. George and Maude have two children ranging in age from four-two. [9]
1930 "1930, United States Federal Census" George was approximately fifty-five years of age, while Maude was also fifty-five. The family continue to own their own home located at 26 Thornley Street, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. The value of the home was $4,000, and when asked George said yes they did own a radio. George's occupation was still a Painter, but now he was in the Decorating Industry and still owned his own business. George and Maude have two children William and Mildred ranging in age from twelve to fourteen. There are two individuals on the Census last name Hunts age forty-five that at this point in time I am unable to determine how they fit into the family. [10]
1940 "1940, United States Federal Census" George is now approximately sixty-seven years of age. The family continues to live at 26 Thornley Street, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. George still owns his painting business. The couple continue to own their home and state that if they rented their home out the rental value would be approximately $3,500 per month. George states he has other sources of income. The Hunt's are still living with George and Maude, which could be a source of household income. [11]
