Levi was born about 1792 in Palatine, Montgomery, NY son of Eluid and Mary Margaret (Fritz) Nickerson
He married about 1818 in Ontario first Harriet Miller the daughter of Ogden and Rachek (?) Miller and had 6 children
He married second, Sarah Goff
Census information indicates that Levi was born in New York after the family had returned from New Brunswick and before the family recieved land in Upper Canada. Levi as a son of a Loyalist was elgible for his 200 acres of land which he did receive.

In the 1828 Militia Rolls at Malahide twp. he is in 4th Co., age 36; Capt. Abraham Backhouse's, 2nd Regiment Middlesex Miltia; at Malahide Twp.; Men of Upper Canada; Militia Nominal Rolls, 1828-1829; Elliott and Walker, from National Archives; p. 147. [He is given as Levi Nickinson]. He is next to Walter Brown and Robert Stilwell and brothers David Nickerson and Enos Nickerson.

According to Sims, Dunboyne, where the Browns settled was at one time known as Nickerson's Corners because the first settlers were the Nickersons.
Reid's gives, "Levi of Grantham. OC 11 Feb 1836." Grantham is the township in the old Lincoln and Welland Counties where St. Catherine's is located. This is also listed in, The Centennial of the Settlement of Upper Canada by the United Empire Loyalists 1784-1884, pub. 1885, p. 82. The date given here however is 4 Mar 1836.
Elgin Land Transactions: Levi Nickerson received a land patent on 20 Dec 1836 of 200 acres and sold to Walter Brown 5 acres on 15 Mar 1851 and 1 1/4 to Ralph Nickerson on 13 Jan 1854. Instr. # -relating to sale of Land to Walter Brown.
Levi did not leave a will and there are many transactions following Levi's death in distributing the land. Most of this was arranged by son Alfred Nickerson who was administator for his estate.
On p. 30, Malahide Land Transactions, the north half of lot 6, Conc. 4 --"sold to Henry Backhouse sometime in the 1840's - Levi Nickerson had been on the lot but could not afford to buy it."
In The history of Malahide schools, SS# 5 (Dunboyne), "A brick school was built in this section in 1872 on a piece of land bought from Levi Nickerson on Lot 10, Concession 3, facing Highway #73. Before this there had been another school in the section but its location is uncertain. When the brick school first opened, 115 pupils were in attendanc."

In the 1861 census at Malahide Township, Elgin County, Ontario (Div. 2, p. 12) Levi Nickerson, age 63, was a farmer in Malahide Township. With him in the census were his wife Sarah, 54, William (Index incorrectly gives him as Hamilton), 24, Roena, 19, Jane, 17 and David, 17. They are listed as E. (Anglican) Methodists. Levi was born in the United States but his brother Nathaniel, is shown as being born in New Brunswick earlier. While Levi is E. Meth., his wife Sarah is a Baptist. Levi was a farmer.
In the 1871 census at Malahide Township, Elgin County, Ontario (Div. 1, p. 40 [Index gives page 48]) Levi Nickerson is 79, of German origin [his mother?] (and shows here incorrectly, that he was born in Ontario) with wife, Sarah, 69, born in the US and David is 24. Also living with them is an Ella "Burney", 6. They are all W. Methodists. They are living next to Levi's son William Nickerson and family, and next to the family of his daughter, Harriet Adams.
He died 16 Jan 1872 in Malahide, ON[1]
