Biography

William Henry Nix is born on September 19, 1902 in Willoughby, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His parents are John Daniel Nix (1859-1918) and Laura Emily Ward (1858-1911).

William never marries. He works as a labourer. On June 4, 1940 he joins the Australian Army. His Attestation papers are signed in Cairns, Queensland.

It is not known what he does in the Army but, on October 1, 1942, when he still a soldier, he jumps off a moving tram car in Waterloo (a suburb of Sydney) and, in doing so, he is hit by a moving automobile. He dies from his injuries. At the time of his death he is living with his brother, Ashley Nix, in Willoughby. He is buried in the Military Cemetery in Rookwood on October 3, 1942. Rookwood is in western Sydney.

His place of birth was Willoughby, NSW and his current address is 42 Mabel St. in Willoughby. His father is John Daniel Nix who’s occupation is a caretaker. His mother is Laura Emily Ward. William Henry is not married and his occupation is a soldier. The person who certifies the information is Ashley Nix, a brother, who has the same street address as William. The cause of death is listed as “injuries of the head, a fractured spine, a tearing of spleen accidently received (knocked to roadway by a moving motor car after jumping from a moving electric tram car). He was buried on Oct 3, 1942 in the military cemetery in Rookwood. The Minister at the funeral was a Methodist.

He is 37 yrs old (37 yrs, 8 months); he served 2 years on the cadets in the Sydney High School; his next of kin is Ashley Nix whose address is 42 Mabel Street in Willoughby. William’s current address is Myola via Kuranoa. His religion is Presbyterian. His hair colour is dark brown and his eyes are hazel.
