a large William Nixon Family in Vinton, Richland Twp 1850, was she part of that family???
An Eliza Jane Nixon is found in Ohio (1850 census of Vinton County, Elk City Twp., p.225) at age 18 with the family of David Hawk(farmer). Both David & his wife are listed as illiterate while 4 of their 5 children and a 16 year old laborer are shown as having been to school within the year.
[Tony Norris I surmise that she may have been a live-in teacher] Her birthplace is listed as Penn. here while the 1900 Wisconsin census lists my Eliza Jane Brown as born in Virginia. Is this the correct Eliza ?
but... based on finding her future husband Parley in Washington Co
---------------------------
Suspect Correct Eliza Nixon is(age 17 b.PA):
1850 OH Census, Washington Co., Watterford Twp. page 855 with family of John(31PA) & Elizabeth(27NH) McFadden and 4 children born OH
-----------
Eliza Jane came to Vernon County, Wisconsin from Ohio "in her teens" (according to the obit.) however this [before 1854] may be in error as her daughter Lizzie C. [b. Mar 11 1860] was born in Zainesville, Ohio.
On September 22, 1855 she married Parley Brown a "Carder"(listed with his first family in Ohio 1850 census of Washington County p.860) whose first wife Celesta Wilson had died on Feb 4, 1854 [Tony Norris this latter from my Brown bible and the census note match exactly in names and ages and birth dates for their 3 then living children]
--------------------
Her daughter Lizzie was born March 11, 1860 and a son James Perley was born July 18, 1864. James died a age 10 on August 16, 1874 according to her bible.
She moved into Viroqua with her daughter Lizzie C. Norris around the time of the death of her husband Parley Brown on April 22, 1886. [Tony Norris holds a photo 16x20" of her believed taken around this time]
She was Viroqua's oldest resident and possessed splendid health until about October 1925 when she fell and injured her hip. She was confined to bed at her daughters home in Viroqua until her death there on March 4, 1926. [Newspaper obituary held by Tony Norris]
birthday clip lists: MARY L BROWN & MARY D BROWN as quests, ? are these spouses or unmarried daughters of Parley & first wife Celestia whom she raised? relation ?
