Biography

Pierce Nixon was born on the 20th of July 1749 in Pasquotank County, North Carolina.[1] entry for Peirce Nixon, 1749; citing Haverford, Quaker Meeting Records. Haverford College, Haverford, Pennsylvania. [Parents: Phineas Nixon & Mary Nixon] He was the son of Phineas Nixon and May (Pierce) Nixon.[1]

Pierce married Penina Smith on the 7th of November 1770 in Perquimans, North Carolina.[2] The intention was recorded in the Quaker's Perquimans Monthly Meeting register.[2]entry for the marriage of Pearce Nixon & Penina Smith, 1770; citing Haverford, Quaker Meeting Records. Haverford College, Haverford, Pennsylvania.

  • The parents: Phineas Nixon and Mary Nixon (born Pierce) . Phineas Nixon was born on January 7 1710, in Perquimans, North Carolina, USA. Mary Pierce Nixon was born on October 23 1722.

The mother, Mary Pierce was the 2nd wife of Phineas; they m. on 2 May 1740, in Chowan County, North Carolina. Mary Pierce was the daughter of Thomas Pierce and Mary Jones (daughter of Peter and Mary Jones.) Mary Pierce Nixon died in Pasquotank County, North Carolina.

The father, Phineas, an elder in the church, died 28 December 1771. His will probated in Perquimans County, 11 March 1772.

Pierce Nixon had 10 siblings: Barnaby Nixon , Elizabeth Nixon and 8 other siblings .

Pierce Nixon married Peninah Nixon (born Smith) on 16 December 1770, at Wells Monthly Meeting, at age 21 at North Carolina. Peninah Smith Nixon was born about 1744, and died 17 May 1787, daughter of John Smith and Rachel White.

Their children were born in Perquimans County. They had 6 children:

  1. Joseph Nixon, born 15 Oct 1771; m. 26 June 1793, Elizabeth Murphy
  2. Rachel Nixon, born 1 Dec 1773; m. 21 Dec 1799 Joshua Newby
  3. Thomas Nixon, born 30 Jan 1776
  4. Mary Nixon, born 22 Feb 1779
  5. William Nixon, born 26 Oct 1781; m. 8 Aug 1804 to Ann (Ratliff) Maudlin, who died 12 June 1868, age 82, 3m, 8d, buried Clear Springs Meeting.
  6. Jacob Nixon, born 28 Feb 1784
