Biography

Alice Nodding was born circa 1762 in Loudoun, Virginia. She was the daughter of William Nodding Sr (abt.1720-bef.1812) and Mary (Brewster) Nodding (abt.1730-aft.1804)

Marriage

Alice married John Brown as his first wife (DAR #: A015613), 1 Oct 1778 Montgomery Co MD

They had two known children:
  1. Peter Brown (1779-1824)
  2. Mary Polly (Brown) Deakins (1783-1859) (spouse Absalom Deakins)

Her father's will notes that she is deceased, by mentioning John Brown's orphaned children

William Nodding died May 1812, Will Books, Vol 1-2, 1779-1889 pg 88-89, Taken to Court for verification of witnesses during May session 1812. It lists his children:

my daughter Mary Bayless
my daughter Elizabeth Calvert
my daughter Ellinor Hill
John Brown's orphan children (wife of deceased daughter raised by Elizabeth Calvert)

In the Revolution War pension statement for the War Service of Peter & John Brown it states John Brown came to Washington NC on February 1, 1780. He purchased a tract of land from Capt. Robert Sevier

On March 20, 1780, Peter Brown and his son, John, purchased another tract of land from Capt. Robert Sevier on the Southeast branch of Boone's Track and on the Northwest side of Indian Ridge in Washington County, joining Sharp and Harris and George Russell's" lines. -This 'transaction was for the Sum of Four Thousand, Four hundred Pounds current money of said State.

Both Peter and his son John Brown served in the REV WAR. Peter for with the Maryland Troops and John fought at Kings Mountain.

Alice NODDING is listed as John's first wife in his pension statement
