Biography

Marguerite was the oldest child of John and Mary Jane Roach Nolan.^[1] (The 1900 Census incorrectly lists her birth date as 1872.)

Marguerite graduated from the Michigan Agricultural College in 1902^[2] and became a school teacher in Houghton Michigan.^[3] In 1906, she married merchant Herbert Lemp of Boise, Idaho.^[4]

They moved to Boise where their two children were born.^[5][6]

Marguerite is credited with the development of domestic science courses at Boise High School.^[7]

Herbert died in 1927 after a polo accident shortly after he was elected mayor of Boise.^[8] After her husband's death, Marguerite took up lodging in a private home in Boise, and was working as an insurance agent.^[9]

Marguerite's daughter was living with her in Boise in 1940.^[10] Marguerite died at age 85^[11] and is buried at Morris Hill Cemetery, Boise.^[12]
