John was the second of eight children in the family of Edward and Ellen Halloran Nolan.[1][2][3] At the time of his draft registration, he was a employed as a woodsman at A. C. Johnson Lumber Co., in Bemidji, Minnesota.[4]
About two months after his draft registration, 20-year old John died in the 1918 flu epidemic.[5] It was one week after his mother died, also of the flu. John was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, in his home town of Brainerd, Minnesota.[6]

There is a death record for John Archie Nolan on November 28, 1918, in Koochiching County.[7]
