Biography

Mary Ann was the third child and second daughter of Martin and Margaret Cranley Nolan, likely born on the family farm in Douro Township, Peterborough, Ontario West.[1] She may have been named for her father's mother, in the traditional Irish naming pattern. She grew up and attended school in Douro. [2]

Mary married Michael Mahoney about 1878 in Douro.[3] By 1891, they had moved to Peterborough town where Michael worked as a lumber laborer. Mary Ann give birth to twins Mary and John on November 12, 1888.[4]Baby Mary died before 1891, but her twin brother grew to adulthood.[5][6][7]

Mary Ann and Michael moved to Windsor, Ontario, some time before 1921 when they were living near their son Edward.[8] They may have come to be with their son John who died in Windsor at age 25.[9]

Mary Ann died of "La grippe," (influenza) at age 82 in Windsor. Her daughter Helena was living with her at the time of her death. They lived at 108 Josephine Street, and had lived there for 14 years.[10] She is buried in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Windsor.[11]
