Biography
Elias Abraham Ross who married Delilah Bassett moved to Newton County Texas before 1861 when their last child Friend was born. Elias died 16 Dec 1863 in Harris Co TX at a Confederate Hospital. In 1864 the Newton Co TX Commissioners Court minutes listed 5 dependents as "destitute" and were granted amounts of salt, corn and pork. (I believe but not sure that his widow remarried in newton Co TX in 1865 to Joel Walders). Elias and Delilah were the parents of William, Sarah E., James W. "Jim", and Friend Robert. Elias has a descendant who has tested the "Big Y 700" at ftdna.com

Mrs. Sophia "Effa" Ross is PROBABly a Norrid, the daughter of Samuel Norred (1760's VA or NC - d1842) and Charity Jasper (1772 SC). There is only circumstantial evidence to "prove" that she was indeed a NORRED although there are autosomal dnal links to the Norred/Norwood/Norris family [1]

DNA is pointing to a direct relationship with the Jasper family through autosomal markers. Although autosomal is not a perfect indicater of how two individuals are related, it does give assurance that there is a relationship. Please be careful in using autosomal "matches" at sites such as ancestry.com etc.
