St. Stephen's Church (Episcopal,) at Perryville, was organized Sept. 18, 1816, before there was any church organization of this denomination in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Oswego or Watertown, and when there were but two parishes in Oneida county. .... In 1831 Rev. Mr. Northrop took charge of the parish, and Sept. 1st of that year Bishop Onderdonk visited the parish and confirmed a class of eight. Northrop officiated here as late as 1835, and occasionally in Augusta and Eaton. Their church was built some forty-six years ago, and was consecrated by Bishop Onderdonk Sept. 5, 1833, Rev. Beardsley Northrop being then the rector. Note: twin Note: 5 Early in life he became a Methodist minister, but later an Episcopalian. Ordained deacon by Bishop Brownell, May 2, 1821, at New Haven, CT; and to priesthood June 5, 1822. Had parishes at Oxford and Trumbull, Fairfield Co., CT; at one time rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church at Bridgewater, CT; organized Apr. 23, 1810, and lived in many places. In 1798, his parents then living in New Milford, removed to Clinton Co., NY. Died in Utica, Oneida Co., NY where his last parish was.
