Biography

Birth date is a guess, based on other known dates.

William married about 1622 at England to Alice Browest.[1]

William Norton was born about 1575 at Sharpenhoe, Bedfordshire, England; son of William Norton and his 1st wife Margaret Hawes, daughter of William Hawes.

He married Alice Bownest or Bonus, the daughter of John and Mercy Bownest of Buckland, Hertfordshire. John Bownest will, dated June 15, 1615 mentions his wife Mercy (Marcey in the text), brother Thomas, son George, son Samuel, son-in-law William Norton, daughter Frances, not married; and unnamed grandchildren.

Children of William and Alice:

John Cotton as the minister of the First Church in Boston. His wife's name was Mary. They may have had a daughter but reports are conficting.
  2. William settled at Ipswich, Massachusetts. He married Lucy, daughter of Emanuel and Lucy (Winthrop) Downing. Child: Rev. 4. Thomas married Katharine Glincard and had children Gabriel, Thomas, and Anne.
  5. Martha.
  6. Mary.
