By the Agricultural Census in 1851, Nelson was farming the S Part Lot 37, Con 1. He had a total of 40 acres, 15 under cultivation and 25 still uncleared.
By 1877, and possibly earlier, he was on Lot 32 (& 33), Con 1 and the Ontario Voters List consistently gives this location through to 1898. His death record in 1901 also gives this location. His five sons all farmed land along Lots 32 to 34. This area is now known as the neighbourhood of Norton Estates in London, Ontario (This area is located between Commissioners Road West and Southdale Road West; west of Andover Drive to Wonderland Road South).
Nelson was a farmer and a manufacturer of bricks.
